A circuit which takes in no less than four "Moor Lanes" - you think it might be on the moors? A very similar route has been in mbr magazine.

Start at Linton Falls car park (with toilets), just across the river from Grassington (SE002631). It isn't always the easiest place to find, following the signs to the church should help. You could start out in Grassington too.

  1. Head out of Linton Falls and turn right, then take the bridleway left by Threshfield school (SD997633), which takes you to Threshfield itself. Turn right onto the road, then left and left again onto the main road. Climb then take the lane to the right at the top of the hill (SD987632). This is Moor Lane number 1! Keep straight on as the lane changes from tarmac to a loose surface until you reach open moor. Keep following the track which bears right here - look out for mine shafts!

  2. After a steady climb which can be tough in places, you reach a bridleway junction at a gate (SD958630) - take the one to the right (it's recently been officially upgraded). This is the first of many freshly surfaced single track sections. Continue along a walled track to a short single track descent with a fun stepped boardwalk bridge before briefly climbing to Malham Moor Lane (number 2!). Take a left here and follow to the end of the tarmac (SD946654).

  3. Keep following the main track, which bears left, and descend on tarmac again to Bordley. Head straight through, then right at the wall (signed Malham) and though the gate on the left. Follow this track over to more farm buildings (SD926644) where you need to bear right then left onto tarmac. Climb, but keep an eye left when you reach the top as the track to Weets Top heads up just over the rise (SD923635). Take this.

  4. It's a cracking single track descent from Weets top towards Hetton - for a lot of it you're effectively riding on a spine of new surface, which effectively creates banked turns, just pretty dodgy ones. Careful not to run wide on the bends as you'll end up off camber, which could result in pain. Look out for walkers too. Cross the bridge by Winterburn Reservoir (SD946612) and climb on more single track to join Moor Lane number 3 which will take you down to Hetton.

  5. Turn left onto the road and follow until you come into Cracoe. Take the bridleway left by the houses just before the main road (SD974599), taking a left when it ends at gates. Climb up then cross fields - head for a barn then some trees. Drop down to ford a stream then steeply back up to join a bit of surfaced single track which takes you onto your final Moor Lane of the day (SD976618). Cross the road at the end of this and take the bridleway to Linton which you need to pass straight through (unless you want to stop at the pub!) on your way back to Linton Falls - straight across at crossroads, then right.
