Variation of the Weets Top route with a different ascent (probably more suited to summer). You can cut and paste bits between the two routes, but I wouldn't recommend the Hanlith route as a descent as the other two ways are so much better.

Start point is a free car park in Gargrave (SD932543) – turn right by the Old Swan Inn, if approaching from Skipton, and it’s on the right about 100m down the road.

  1. Exit the car park to the right, cross the canal and head straight on onto Mark House Lane. This takes you over to Bell Busk where you cross both the river and the beck by taking the 2nd road on to the right (SD904564). Soon after, there's a bridleway signed right - this is Kirk Syke Lane and takes you to Airton. Turn left then right then left on the road (SD902591) and cruise to Kirby Malham. A right turn opposite the pub (SD894609) takes you across the river and up the hill through Hanlith. It's a steep hill with a couple of hair pins.

  2. The road levels out a bit and becomes a well surfaced track which continues onto the moors. The grassy track which takes over bears right up hill, and it can get pretty soggy. Through a gate you meet the track coming up from Calton (SD924628) - turn left and climb on surfaced single track to Weets Top.

  3. After admiring the view, take the track signed Hetton to begin a great down hill section on surfaced single track. There's a small rise then some more surfacing work which has resulted in a spine to ride on which gives kinda banked turns, just be careful not to run wide! Bit of grassy fun mixed in too.

  4. Reaching the bridge at the head of Winterburn Reservoir (SD946612) climb up the track to the beginning of Moor lane which heads down to Hetton. Down here, take a right turn onto another track (SD955598) and follow this onto a bridleway which crosses farm land to the road. Turn right on the road to Winterburn and keep straight on to Eshton. A left turn by Eshton House (SD929567) gets you onto the road back to Gargrave. Once in Gargrave, turn right onto Chew Lane (cycle route 68) which takes you back to the car park.
