Loops up towards Malham and gets some top notch views and a quality descent. Great fun in the other direction too.
Start point is a free car park in Gargrave (SD932543) – turn right by the Old Swan Inn, if approaching from Skipton, and it’s on the right about 100m down the road.
- Turn right out of the car park, over the canal and right onto Chew Lane. Then it's left onto the road out of Gargrave, taking the right turn to Flasby and Hetton below Eshton Hall (SD939556). Pass Flasby to arrive in Hetton. Go past the Angel pub, and turn left onto Moor Lane, signed as a bridleway (SD962589), which takes you up onto the moor. Take the left fork of the bridleway, signed Weets Top, which now becomes single track, following this down to cross Hetton Common Beck (SD946612). Across the beck it's uphill on surfaced and grassy single track to Weets Top (SD925631).
- There are great views over Malham and Gordale from the top and, turning left, a good descent on single track to look forward too. This becomes grassy and then a farm track takes you into Calton (SD909593). From here take the road straight across the river to Airton where you go straight over at the crossroads.
- A left turn takes you to a bridleway, Kirk Syke Lane, on the right after a few hundred metres (SD901588) which will take you to Bell Busk. Meeting the road here, turn left then over the bridge (SD904564) and on to Mark House Lane, climbing up then descending back into Gargrave. Continuing straight forward across the canal takes you back to the car park.
